Let us deal with the possibilities in AFP one by one. AFP enters all error messages in the event log for Windows applications, irrespective of any settings. To see them, start the event viewer and select the applications log. This provides an excellent and flexible method to monitor the AFP system applications. The event log lets you even monitor outside machines.

Since the event log is a standardized process for error messaging, countless tools exist that make monitoring easier. With SoftSentry you can forward all errors by e-mail. Microsoft's Windows Server Resource Kit allows you to write the event log in a text file through DUMPEL.EXE. This can also be automated with relatively little effort letting you receive all notices regularly by e-mail or via FTP.

A cluster solution lets you receive and evaluate AFP based messages from the individual machines in a central location. Very handy, don't you think?
